In Brooklyn’s Finest (Overture Films/Anchor Bay Entertainment; DVD, Blu-ray; 133 minutes, Rated R), in the course of one chaotic week, three of Brooklyn’s Finest are transformed by their involvement in a drug operation.
Eddie Dugan (played magnificently by Golden Globe-winner Richard Gere) is a week away from his pension and a life of fishing. Narcotics officer Sal Procida (played by a very convincing Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke) will do anything…legal or illegal…to provide for his wife and seven kids. Oscar nominee Don Cheadle plays Tango Butler, an undercover cop who blurs the lines between his cover life and his real life. Rounding out the strong cast is Wesley Snipes, who plays Caz, a drug dealer (think an older Nino Brown) who is getting too old for the game and weighing all of his options.
Review: 4 Buckets of Popcorn. Director/Executive Producer Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) produces a realistic portrayal of police life in a very rough precinct. This accurate portrayal will cause you to empathize with each of Brooklyn’s Finest and even Snipes’ character. Also, Fuqua provides plenty of enough action and suspense to keep you guessing the fate of each character.
