In 1956, Marilyn Monroe (Michelle Williams) and her new husband, the playwright Arthur Miller (Dougray Scott), flew to London so that Marilyn could start filming The Prince and the Showgirl with Sir Laurence Olivier. Colin Clark (Eddie Redmayne), a 23 year-old who wanted to make it big in the movie business, works as an assistant on the movie set.
My Week With Marilyn (The Weinstein Company; Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack; 99 minutes; Rated R) details the true interaction between Marilyn and Colin during a week of shooting. Colin gets close enough to Marilyn to try to save her from the pressures of celebrity life. He has his work cut out for him in a big way. Will the movie suffer from Marilyn’s instability? Will Arthur find out about Colin? Will Colin’s movie business dreams crash?
Review: 4 Buckets of Popcorn (for excellent performances). Michelle Williams didn’t win the Golden Globe and garner an Academy Award® nomination for her performance for nothing. Kenneth Branagh performance as Sir Laurence Olivier is very believable. I love true stories; and this is one true story that delivers.
